As the University of Calabar holds its 33rd convocation tomorrow, 14th March, 2020, the Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Petroleum Resources, Akwa Ibom State, Rt Hon (Barr) Ekong Sampson will add yet another fleece to his already glittering academic crown as he will bag his Ph.D in International Law from the institution.

In a release made available to the public, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Zana Itiunbe Akpagu on behalf of the Council, Senate, Staff and students of the institution has already invited the general public to the 33rd convocation for the conferment of Diplomas, First Degrees, Higher Degrees and award of Honorary Degrees and prizes to deserving graduands of the university for the academic 2018/2019 academic year in an event which will be held at the Abraham Ordia sports stadium, Unical Campus.

For one of tomorrow's illustrious graduands, Rt Hon (Barr) Ekong Sampson, the convocation will midwife  yet another distinguished addition to his ever growing repertory of academic degrees and laurels. Only some few years ago, he had bagged his Masters of Law(LLM) from the prestigious University of Lagos, Akoka.

A widely respected intellectual powerhouse, Hon Sampson's has carved a brilliant niche for himself as a highly cerebral public servant who, despite the seeming comfort of  his political status has continually seeked to deepen his knowledge at every given opportunity. Little wonder then as he has already been rumoured to be pursuing more degrees in the years to come in diverse academic fields.

His award of a Doctor of Philosophy in Law tomorrow will also cements his place as an astute academic in his own rights having founded and oversaw a highly successful private school, The Excellence Academy, in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area as well being a major backer of several other academic endeavours.

A true literati, Rt Hon (Barr) Ekong Sampson has authored several intellectually engaging masterpieces and is a patron of the Uyo Book Club, a gathering of some of Akwa Ibom's brightest minds in literature and the arts.

It is indeed a season of garlands for the seasoned public servant and scholar.
