APC Stakeholders Are Planning Defection in A'Ibom -Sen Akpabio





The Honourable Minister of Niger Delta Affairs and former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio during the week at his Ukana residence in Essien Udim LGA revealed that as the 2023 elections get closer, some prominent All Progressives Congress(APC) stakeholders in the state are planning to defect from the party.

Senator Akpabio made this known on Monday when he hosted APC media practitioners in the state in his residence.

On the reason for the planned defection by the unnamed stakeholders, he said, "any elder of the party who uses tribe and ethnicity as the only means to obtain political power has an undisclosed deficit and may never win election or performed well if given an opportunity to governed." He said, during his tenure as the governor of the oil-rich state, he initiated projects in all the local government areas and that translated to numerous chieftaincy titles bestowed on him by elders and leaders of  local government areas in the state.

Chief Akpabio, urged the party's media practitioners comprises of print, electronic and new media to help in projecting the good image of the party at all levels and President Muhammadu Buhari, saying President Muhammadu Buhari has done tremendously well in fixing infrastructures in the country and deserves commendations.

Sen. Akpabio, who was elated to see the coming together of notable media practitioners in the party, lauded the former Culture and Tourism Commissioner in the state, Rt. Hon.Victor Antai for his ingenuity and passion for the growth of the party in the state and for always being a rallying point of all the media men in Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the APC.

He, however, expressed the hope that APC as a party shall also welcome and accept defectors from other political parties in the state as the next general election in the state is crucial to the growth and success of the party in the state.

The Minister opined that by law, he is not qualified to vie for the governorship position of the state having served the state for eight years as a governor, said the party in the state is ready to support anybody that shall emerged as the gubernatorial candidate of the party.

He sued for unity amongst APC media practitioners and charged them to avoid creating unnecessary enmity in the name of 2023 as no anybody knows who is going to be the governorship flag bearer of the party in the state.
