AKHA Backs Nteogwuijah for Second Term After Oversight Visit
...Commends Eastern Obolo Chairman’s “Results-Driven” Leadership
The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has endorsed the performance of Eastern Obolo Local Government Chairman, Rt. Hon. Samuel Nteogwuijah, and urged stakeholders to support him for a second term.
The endorsement came during an oversight visit by the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs on Sunday.
Committee Chairman, Rt. Hon. Mfon Idung, described Nteogwuijah as a results-driven leader whose administration has converted council resources into visible, people-focused projects across the riverine LGA.
Inspecting key projects, including the ongoing construction of the new Eastern Obolo Local Government Secretariat, Idung said the works reflect prudent management, visionary leadership, and a genuine commitment to grassroots development.
“The Committee deliberately scheduled this visit because the administration now has tangible achievements to showcase,” Idung said. “We are satisfied with the level of progress recorded despite the difficult terrain of Eastern Obolo.”
He also conveyed the goodwill of Speaker Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong and commended Governor Umo Eno for providing LGAs with the financial backing to deliver meaningful projects.
Idung noted that the constitutional three-year tenure for council chairmen is too short for visionary leaders to complete their plans. He said the scale of projects initiated by Nteogwuijah deserves continuity.
“The people and stakeholders should give the chairman another opportunity to consolidate on these gains,” he added.
The endorsement highlights growing confidence in Nteogwuijah’s administration, which has recorded strides in infrastructure, potable water, healthcare, education, youth and women empowerment, rural roads, peacebuilding, and community development under Governor Eno’s ARISE Agenda.
Receiving the lawmakers, Nteogwuijah described the visit as a vital democratic exercise that promotes transparency and accountability. He pledged to sustain the delivery of more dividends of democracy to Eastern Obolo residents and to remain aligned with Governor Eno’s development vision.
The delegation included Chief Whip Rt. Hon. Sir Effiong Johnson; Hon. Uwemedimo Asuquo; Hon. Emem Abasi Udom; Hon. Jeri Otu; Hon. Bassey Bassey; Hon. Selinah Isotuk Ukpatu; Rt. Hon. Eric Akpan; Hon. Precious Selong; Hon. Itoro Etim; Hon. Uwem Imo Ita; and Hon. Prince Ubong Ata Imo.
