AKSG orders arrest, prosecution of roadside traders along Airport Road

The Akwa Ibom State government has ordered security operatives to arrest anyone found selling or displaying wares along the Airport Road in Uyo, the state capital.

The Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Petroleum Resources, Rt. Hon (Barr) Ekong Sampson Ph.D, gave the directive yesterday while visiting the Airport Road to clear the illegal roadside trading.

The Commissioner described as worrisome and unbearable the fact that traders abandone various markets in the Metropolis only to display their wares on major highways where vehicles are plying on high-speed.

The Environment Commissioner while condemning the acts, disclosed that he has warned the erring traders against doing businesses on the airport road as days of grace for such risky trading is gone.

He maintained that the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel will stop at nothing in protecting lives and properties of Akwa Ibom people, as well as preserving a serene and peaceful state for the good of all.
