Breaking! Gov Eno clears N39.8b bank loans incurred by Udom's administration
The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno has cleared N39.831 billion commercial bank loan owed by the administration of the immediate past Governor of the state, Mr Udom Emmanuel.
The Honourable Commissioner for Finance, Mr Emem Bob made this known during a press briefing on Tuesday at the Ministry's Conference room, Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat, Uyo.
According to him, "After a thorough review and negotiations, this Administration of His Excellency, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno fully cleared the debt as at last month of November, 2025. The total amount paid was N39.831 billion. The details of the transaction are; Principal: N34.533 billion and Interest of N5,298 billion."
The Finance Commissioner noted that since May 29 , 2023 when Governor Eno came to power, he has not borrowed money for any project or programme.
He further disclosed that the Governor has also paid additional N76.3 billion out of the N 110 billion backlog of gratuities inherited from 2012.
"In addition to the Commercial Banks debt settlement, out of the N 110billion backlog of gratuities also inherited from 2012, the present administration in a little above two years in office two years has paid N76.3billion, clearing the backlogs to March, 2021."
The Finance Commissioner averred that the Governor's ability to clear the bank loans and other debts resulted from his financial discipline, enhanced revenue management, and proper resource allocation
Other government officials at the event included, the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Dr Aniekan Umana, the Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service, Sir Okon Okon, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Directors and others.
