Legislation: Councillor seeks NIMC Centre for Mkpat Enin people

 



•••Restates risk of Covid-19 in large gatherings


In an efforts to mitigate contraction of the Covid-19 in large gatherings, the Councillor representing Ukpum Minya ward 2 in Mkpat Enin legislative Council, Hon. MbetObong Ekah, has sponsored a motion for immediate establishment of  National Identification Management Commission  centre (NIMC), in the area, for easy National Identity Number (NIN)  registration.

 Ekah, moved the motion at the first plenary of the 7th Mkpat Enin legislative Council, explained that the establishment of NIMC centre in the area will help to decongest the outrageous crowd at the Federal Secretariat which according to him, has been the only registration point for the exercise.

According to the lawmaker " NIN registration at the Federal Secretariat at this time will pose great risk to the indigenes of Mkpat Enin and will make people prone to contracting COVID-19 disease."

" Some indigenes and residents of Mkpat Enin will not have adequate means of transporting themselves to Federal Secretariat for  registration and collection of NIN as well as the aged among them who are also subscribers." He added.


He further urged  the Executive Chairman of the Council, Prince Anieokpon Ekpo to as a matter of urgency, write to NIMC requesting for a registration centre within the Council to serve the indigenes and residents of Mkpat Enin in the registration fee of National Identification Number.

While advocating that a sub Committee should be setup to oversee the smooth running and implementation of the registration and collection of National Identity number (NIN) by the national Identify management Commission, the Councillor further advised the Executive Chairman to provide an enabling environment and adequate assistance to aid the registration.

Honourable Ekah who doubled as the Chairman, House Committee on Education, expressed optimism that the motion if duly adhered to, will be of greater benefit to Mkpat Enin people.

The Senate President Godswill Akpabio and 10 senators are expected to receive the 2023 governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Akwa Ibom State, Bassey Albert, into the All Progressives Congress (APC) today, Friday, in Akwa Ibom.
