Mary Slessor Road: Group Lauds Gov Udom For Re-awarding Contract

An apex youth organization in Itu local government area, Mkparawa Uwana Itu Clan, has applauded the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel for re-awarding contract for the construction of a 5.0km T-junction Mary Slessor Hospital road, saying that the road when completed will boost economic activities in the area.

The leader of the organization, Elder Asuquo Asuquo Nung who gave the commendation last weekend during their executive meeting in Itu local government area, noted that the road has been abandoned for over twenty years, promising that the group will give maximum cooperations and assistance to the government and contractor to ensure speedy completion.

Recall that the Akwa Ibom State Government during its State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday 2nd March, 2022, approved the re-award of contract for the construction of 5.0km T-Junction-Mary Slessor Hospital road with 30M Span Bridge in Itu local government area.

The Mkparawa Uwana Itu Clan leader who spoke well of Governor Emmanuel, averred that the governor re-awarded the Mary Slessor Road constructed  out of his desire towards bringing development to the rural areas in order to boost economic activities in the state.

"We cannot thank the Governor enough for remembering the poor state of this Mary Slessor Road after which it was abandoned for over 20 years today. It takes a leader with deep sense of love for his people to do this. This gesture simply demonstrates that Governor Udom Emmanuel has deeper love for rural development, because when the road is completed, it will boost economic activities in this our area." He explained.

" The only duty we have now as a people is to cooperate with the government and the contractor that will handle the construction work, so that they will complete this road on time. I believe our cooperations will help the speedy completion of the road." He added.

Speaking further, the Secretary General of the Organization, Elder Victor Etetim Okon who thanked God for registering the poor state of the Mary Slessor Road in the mind of Governor Udom Emmanuel, recounted the many woes and suffering the road has left on the local traders and other users.

He expressed optimism that contractors assigned to handle the road will work with swiftness and complete the construction before the end of the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel in May 2023 for the good of the people.

Elder  Okon however commended the governor’s effort in the aspect of youth empowerment, investment and

employment opportunities provided by his administration, pledging that the group will continue to support his administration for better governance and more dividends.

His words "It is God that registered the poor state of this road in the mind of Governor Udom Emmanuel. As a people, we are praying that the government will be sincere and the contractor will work hard to complete the road before the Governor leaves the stage in May 2023.
