Press Freedom Day: Uyo Council Boss Harps on Objective Reportage

  


The executive chairman: of Uyo local government council, Uwemedimo Udo Ph.D, has urged journalists in Akwa Ibom State to ensure strict adherence to upholding professional ethics of objectivity, fairness and balance in reporting events and analysing  issues.

The Uyo Council Boss gave the admonition while receiving members of the 2022 Press Freedom Day Committee of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Akwa Ibom State Council, that paid  a courtesy visit on him in his office yesterday.


While saluting the ingenuity and creativity of Amos Etuk's led NUJ State Council, Udo stressed the need for media houses to engage on training and retraining of journalists to ensure objective reportage for a peaceful society.

He mentioned that Uyo local government council under his watch, will continue to support and encourage press freedom in the State, explaining that the gesture will ensure transparency in governance.



"My administration has been media friendly and I hope to sustain the cordial relationship with journalists in Akwa Ibom State. I will do my best to support NUJ and press freedom, but I also need your support for balanced and objective reportage of events." He stressed.

"The Nigeria Union of Journalists and media outfits must as a matter of necessity, instill in their members and staffers, some level of objectivity, balance and fairness with strict adherence to professional ethics. A common man in the street believes everything a journalists put in the public space. So there is need for training and retraining of the pen pushers." He stated.

He declared his administration's readiness to support the 2022 Press Freedom Day celebration and averred that journalists must encourage the atmosphere of peace especially in the forthcoming 2023 elections, for a peaceful Akwa Ibom State.

The courtesy visit had in attendance the Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary and Supervisory Councillors of Uyo local government council.
